From my first ergonomic audit applying Nielsen's 10 Usability Heuristics methodology, I learned that even large companies like Uber Eats have areas for UX improvement. The three design issues mentioned in my ergonomic audit are primarily relevant to novice users of online food ordering and new Uber Eats' website users. Therefore, if the company aims to attract new customers, it must address these problems.
New users may not be familiar with the purchase process steps and when prices are adjusted according to the selected promotions. At every moment, users must have the same information as that which is being processed by the system. In this way, they can have explicit control of their actions and navigation throughout the site.
Moreover, I found it very important to address the identified error messages since they can impact or even interrupt the users' shopping process. The error messages' quality will allow users to fix them quickly, reduce time and effort, and conclude their food order. It will also provide them with accurate feedback that can make them feel more comfortable with their purchase and likely increase their confidence in the website.
The two identified error messages need to provide more specific information with brief and clear messages. For example, for the second card, a suggested message is: "incorrect expiration date, please try again. If the problem persists, please contact your financial institution". This will allow users to identify the error easily and, if possible, quickly fix it.
I believe that both new and established companies such as Uber Eats have the opportunity to implement design improvements on their websites. Increasingly, the importance and need for successful online platforms are rising and companies need to develop suitable and accessible platforms for different users. Uber Eats is an example of an online service company that has grown exponentially in the last year, and that could likely have benefited further with some UX design strategies that target new users.
